Re: Stylish UK team blazers for sale!

Hi Joe, Best current offer is £50 plus postage, a bargain for classic British craftmanship... If you're interested, I'll work out what it would cost to post - unless any of you guys are coming over to Europe any time soon. The blazer is indeed the last word in sophistication, and you would be most w...

Stylish UK team blazers for sale!

We have two UK team blazers for sale. They were ordered for the Worlds but the boat pulled out, so they are unused. The blazers are the height of yacht club chic: dark navy with unique 14 carbon buttons and a red lining. There's a UK team logo on the inside pocket. Men's blazer, double breasted, siz...

Re: Newbies to 14's

Hello! Congratulations on the purchase. I just checked in the class history and it's definitely a Howlett 1b. It was built in 1992 for Robin Nott and was originally called "Caryatid", but looks like the second owner changed it to "Pure Fantasy"...... Good luck with the sailing. 14 open meetings are ...

Re: UK rule proposal on wind strength and mainsails

There was a lot of discussion about this at the UK AGM, before the rule proposal was submitted. A lot of people like the idea of reefing in principle, but the reality is that only two or three boats in the UK have stiff enough masts. Quite a few people have tried reefed/cut down sails since Weymouth...

Re: Standing rigging sizing, options and expected loads

HI Ed, I'm using 5mm Marlow SK78 Max for my forestay. The Max is the elongated, low stretch version. Although the breaking strains of the 3mm and 4mm are massive on paper, I went for the 5mm because I was nervous about it breaking through chafe, eg if I capsized on a sharp bit of mooring buoy/got it...

** CARNAC SKIFF EVENT **

The Notice of Race and online registration for the Carnac Skiff event are now available on the YC Carnac website. The event is on 4 & 5 September, just before the Europeans, and very close to Quiberon. It should be a perfect warm-up and an excellent opportunity to familiarise ourselves with French f...

It's really a bit of both. It was very important for the 14 to be there as a yardstick, but we also needed to have something realistic to offer women's sailing. Our actual proposal was for more of a "one design" - based on a current 14 but with some additional restrictions (eg one hull design, one m...
