Spinnaker and pole launching system for a B3

Post by koenraadvds » Fri Apr 20, 2018 7:12 pm

Hi Guys

It's been posted several times before but all the images attached to the posts seem te be gone.
I'm struggling finding a good simple system for launching my spinnaker.
Can somebody draw me a diagram of how it should be done of pictures of their setup?

Here is a rough sketch

Black for your extended pole, dark grey for your retracted pole.

The green line is the tack line of your kite. It is attached to the deck behind the pole (when fully retracted) and passes through the pole to attach to the tack of the kite. The length of this line determines how far you pole can launch (max 2743 mm).

The red line is your pole launch line, it attaches to the end of the pole and goes forward to the pole bulkhead passing through a block and then going aft to a pair of blocks tied end to end before going back to the pole bulkhead where it is tied off.

The blue line is your spinnaker halyard, after exiting the mast it passes through a block and then goes forward passing through the double block, back through the halyard cleat and then to another block at the transom before passing through your kite sock to the belly buttons on the kite.

As you hoist the spinnaker, the double block moves aft, launching the pole in tandem with the kite hoisting,

When you drop the kite, the double block moves forward, pulling the pole back into the boat.

The last pull is the hardest and the pole loads up and the crew is pulling with a 1 to 2 purchase (with friction!), so hoist quickly!

Are you coming to the worlds in SF this summer? :D

Hi Rand
Thank you very much for your input!

I'm gonna learn how to sail this thing first before doing the big contests. :D
Wobbly sea here in Belgium so it'll be fun keeping the boat afloat. 8)
