So, I finally have an I-14. Figured out the rigging, made some repairs, and put it in the water on a day when I was expecting up to 7kts. Very exciting stuff when the boat is upright, and still exciting after being blown over.
this is the first boat I have ever had that can be blown over with just the mast and standing rigging up. But it was 30 kts.
Anyway, I would appreciate hearing ideas of how to set the 14 up so that a person with reasonable sailing experience can learn the boat, and work up to the fun parts. It is not that I am a novice. I have sailed all kinds of boats all over the world. In college, I had an E-Scow at the school dock, which I took out by myself most evenings.
Anyway, my first idea is to make the raising and lowering of sails much easier. Swedish clips on the jib, and slugs for the main. Possibly reef points. I do have some old sails to play with, but I don't want to do anything I cannot change back once my abilities improve.
I am sure these issues and more have been solved many times.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
