Notice of Race
San Diego Skiff Regatta
April 21 & 22, 2012
Organizing Authority: San Diego Yacht Club
Venue: San Diego Bay

1. Rules:
a. The race will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US Sailing, the rules of participating class and fleets, and this Notice of Race (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions) and the Sailing Instructions.
2. Eligibility:
a. This race will be opened to any skiff class with a recognized class association.
b. Deadline for entry is Saturday, April 21 @ 10:30 am.
3. Entry Fee: Fee payable to Brad Ruetenik is $1 per foot of hull, and two six-packs of microbrew beer from competitor’s home area.
4. Schedule of Events:
a. Skippers Meeting @ 0930, Saturday, April 21 at San Diego Yacht Club next to the Official Notice Board. Warning Signal @ 1200 on Saturday. Subsequent races to follow.
b. Skippers briefing @ 0930, Sunday, April 22 at San Diego Yacht Club next to the Official Notice Board. Warning Signal @ 1130.
Subsequent races to follow.
5. Sailing Instructions:
SI’s will be available at the skippers meeting.
6. Race Area:
The course will be in San Diego Bay.
7. Scoring:
This event will use the Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A2 of the Racing Rules. One race will constitute a series.

1. RULES
1.1. This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the current Racing Rules of Sailing and as modified by these sailing instructions.
1.2. RRS 31 Touching a Mark is deleted.

2. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS
Notice to competitors will be posted on the Notice Board located on the east wall facing the water of the Sailing Center.
A competitors briefing will be held each morning at 0930.

3. CHANGES TO THE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Changes to these SIs will be posted on the Notice Board not later than 0930 on the day they take effect.

4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
Signals made ashore will be displayed from the SDYC flagpole.

5. SIGNALS MADE AFLOAT
In accordance with RRS 89.2 (c), oral changes to the Sailing Instructions may be made on the water.

6. SCHEDULE OF RACES
Up to eight races are scheduled for each race day. The warning signal is 1200 for Saturday and 1130 for Sunday.

7. RACING AREAS
The starting area will be in the vicinity of the east end of Harbor Island.

8. THE COURSE
The course will be selected from the attached Course Description.

9. MARKS
Mark 1 and Mark 2 - Mid-Course Gates will be yellow. Mark 3 - Leeward Gate marks will be orange.

10. THE START
The starting line will be between the leeward gate marks. The start sequence will be Appendix S (3 min. / no flags)

11. RECALLS
As a courtesy, the Race Committee will attempt to hail boats On Course Side by loud hail. Failure of equipment, failure to hear a hail, delay in hailing or the order in which hails are given will not be grounds for redress.

12. THE FINISH
The finish line will be between the leeward gate marks.

13. PROTESTS
A boat intending to protest shall report her intentions to a jury of peers in the parking lot after racing.

14. WITHDRAWAL
A boat intending to withdraw from racing shall attempt to notify any RC vessel.

15. SCORING
15.1. A boat’s series score shall be the total of her race scores. No scores shall be excluded. One completed race shall constitute a series.

16. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
16.1. Competitors participate in this regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4 – Decision to Race – “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
16.2. San Diego Yacht Club will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, or after the regatta.
