Regarding putting the shrouds on the rack, It's a trade-off. You reduce the shroud tensions required, but you develop a tremendous lever in a rather awkward configuration with the hull. I think I will take the shrouds directly to the hull.
The new RMW 14 that was recently on display had a compression strut running from the shroud attachment on the racks to the mast step to stop that lever arm.

That's how I would do it. But the shrouds still want to lever the compression strut up out of the hull.

why a deck? Structure? I personally like being able to get at all the bits when it goes pear shaped.

Yes, structural. And it tends to send the water towards the back of the boat rather than filling the bow like a bathtub when the bow decides to go through a wave.

Yes, my wife insisted on it. I am also considering bright-finishing the hull, which should look cool with the wood and carbon together. In that case the turquoise would go on the deck and maybe the floor too.

My boat arrived in a box yesterday. Here's a pic of it fit together with the box it came in. The top of the assembly is the floor. The sheer is higher.

It pencils out to about 160 lbs for hull and fittings, or just under weight.

About $1000 for plywood (bulkheads and skin)
About $500 for port orford cedar stringers and misc wood
$??? for carbon (I hope to be getting prices on this soon)
$200 for epoxy
$??? for carbon tubing for racks, spinnaker pole and boom
$2500 for foils
$500 for fittings

I have good sails and mast.

Not sure where I will get foils yet. Thinking about Russ Brown in Seattle or a local guy, John Slattebo, who does some really innovative stuff.

Very nice looking shape!
Do you plan on keeping the plywood frames inside or get rid of them once the strip-planking is finished and replace with a lighter foam sandwich structure?

I plan on keeping the plywood frames. I will be cutting substantial lightening holes in the frames. I have one frame at midship that is temporary; I will remove it once the shell is complete and I've inserted the diagonal frames in way of the mast/shrouds. The diagonal frames will be carbon composite with plywood core.
