The first lay up wasn't too successful because I couldn't keep the unis in the right place around the tube so take two had a different method. It need some plain weave to bind it all together and it is done.

Thanks Steve.

I have moved to Norway where you cant buy anything which is suitable for a 14 other than maybe dyneema.

So when i brought it over I basically wrote a list of everything which will need doing in the next 3 yrs and brought everything i needed with me.
by doing that i ended up with a trailer full of bits which = a 14 when assembled, hence all the work now.

I am enjoying it and learning lots as i go and hopefully without too many mistakes.

The exciting and nerve racking bit will be the paint job, i have lots of bits to practice on before i get to the hull.

Bit if a daft question but how do you finish off the transom edge before painting?

I currently have a sharp edge which isn't good but how do you detune it to sensible shape the paint will adhere to and it won't be too brittle.

Well it has been a slow two months. Work has taken over and the 14 has been neglected somewhat.

After a very long break I have restarted work.

I have been working on assembling a new rudder and making some kickbard.

The kickbars are a trial and may end up being too flexible in their current form, see how it comes out.

I am going to rei force the floor which is very susceptible to puncture then bond the bars on.

I guess I will fillet the join and over laminate.

Unless there is a better solution?

Good to see you working on the boat Ed. This is too late for you, but I laminated my kickbar in place in the boat with outward flanges (on plastic, so I could remove it, clean up the edges and then glue it down). Since you don't have flanges, your solution of fileting then laminating over the filet sounds good.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the tip.

I actually intended to have them are right angle sections, then realised running take ups will be a challenge. after i had laid it up.
Anyway, the challenge is getting the garage warm enough for the epoxy. kerosene and electric heaters struggle to keep up with the poor insulations.

Great to see the Shu 3 coming along!
