I'm sorry I wasn't there due to illness. And too bad about all the boats stuck on the ships due to the labor issues. Next year!

Can someone fill us in on the conditions, the strengths of the various boats, Cameron's new rocket ship, etc.?

Looking forward to Super Cup and Santa Barbara Nationals!

We missed many boats that were planning on being there but we will see everyone soon.
Five great boats took on the course and it was tight. Cameron and Evan pulled out the brand new B6 red rocket for her maiden regatta,
Paul G. put the band back together with Guillo back on board , Brad R. had Garett back from Olympic Class sailing, The Shu with Tom who flew out
from Hawaii to sail the Famous Shu2 and us, Hendo (Me) and Martin (from Sweden) in our B6 hull #9.
First I want to thank Steve Shu and Tom for coming. At this stage in our lives and the class, we have lost our b-fleet and steve and tom won this hands down. I dare any B2 or B3 ,or Morrisson or H-1 or anything to compete with these guys. They came early, they trained with the fleet.
they sat at the evening de-briefings every night and asked questions and learned and grew.
The 14 is'nt about competing and winning ,it is about sailing, having fun and sailing around the boats you are around, where ever you are in the fleet.
S.D. had a typical Santa Ana come from the hot hills of Mexico and east that sent the normal sea brease in to a tizzy > Race one started out light with drifting at the top mark and the sea breeze started in by the end.
Hendo, Martin took this race and now the breeze is up. With dukeout between Brad R.and Paul G. to some how end up as a dead tie. never seen
that, each team end up with a 2.5. They award Cameron 4th. Race two all top boats get to the top at the same time, Brad and Gerret are the first out the lead changes again, finish comes to Hendo,Martin ,Paul and Guillo ,
Cameron and Evan, Brad and Garret, Shu and Tom , as the group.
Now the wind is blowing fresh (17knts.), perfect for a afternoon long distance race.
Cam and Evan get the upperhand and with killer speed are through the bridge gate and exstend through the channel . Boats start to close but not before Cameron and Evan have a blowout and have to return home .
Paul takes Brad ,with Hendo ,Shu to follow. One thing noted, The B6's were hot, Hendo and Martin winning the first two races and Cameron, with his brand new boat !! short of there breakdown it would have been all B6.
Day one, top is 1,1,3 with 5pts next is 5.5pts(?) game on.
Day two wecome to the Mexicana Santa Ana. We drift out and she arrives 15 knts from the mexican hills.
at about 90 deg.hot air and smooth waters . An East (right ) shiff and local boy Brad is on it ,Hendo Martin second,
Cameron ,Evan third, Paul, Guillo opt to not jibe set as the righty is starting to fade. Cameron last in line on the Port jibe take advantage and roll Hendo to close in on Brad. Paul comes on from the left to split the two while Hendo, Martin watch from behind. Next leg Cameron is ripping up to Brad but another brakedown slows as Hendo
Martin shred past Brad to take the first place ,Cameron, Paul follow.
We knew the easterly would die which it did . New wind (14knt) sea breeze, and Brad hands us one and wins the last race of the day Paul 2nd, Hendo ,Martin 3rd, Cameron ,Evan 4th. And the Shu and Tom to follow.
Now check this out, Paul ,Guillo have a score of 2.5, 2,1,4,2.. Brad and Garret have 2.5, 4,2,2,1.. each have 11.5pts These two teams had a duke out and only 2pts away from first (2.5?) This was anybodys ragatta.
with Hendo Martin having 9pts. needing to only stay within one place of either boat on either race on Sunday.
So,Hendo ,Martin add 5pts,(2,3), Brad, Garret add 5pts. (1,4). Paul ,Garret add 6pts(4,2), And
Hendo Martin take the West Coast Midwinters Championships.
Best part of the whole day and finish of the weekend was to watch Cameron and Evan win the last race hands down . Hendo,Martin played with them for a while (two B6's out in front), but then went back to cover abit .
It was great to see all the work that Cameron had put into getting this boat ready for this event and going home with a last race bullet!
All and all a great regatta thanks to Dr.Brad and Renee to put it all together. We missed all the boats back from Worlds still stuck in a container. Next time..

I am always impressed by the simple bulkhead structure that produces such a stiff and light weight boat. Nice work Kris and Kim.

From the finiate computer design that Paul Bieker imploys (thanks to Oracle America's cup ).,
Paul has a consept of min and no extra.

Back at home and going through speed puck files,..Top speed for a regatta that as Evan said (4-to 16Knts.)
We found 18.1knts.on friday.
and 16.3 on Sunday.
It shows good upwind speed and point as well as Blistering boat speed downwind is the key...
