Re: Pacific Rim/ US Nationals Report

Five races were sailed in generally puffy and shifty conditions ranging from 6-14 knots. Racing was tough throughout the fleet. A premium was paid to those who got a good start and/or those who could tack for the first puff/shift off the line. Boat speed didn't hurt either. Brad and Trick and Dave a...

Pacific Rim/ US Nationals Report

I think it is time this event has its own page. Sorry to high jack your reporting Hendo. The gang's all here and it looks like a very competitive group. Leith and Axel traveled all the way from Germany/England and are sailing Kirk's B5. They are fresh off their 3rd place finish at the well attended ...

Re: The new B6

We thought rubbing it was how you made it stiff like those pre-preg boats! Or am I confusing that with engineering?

Re: UK rule proposal on wind strength and mainsails

Peter: That was well said and your story illustrative of the issue as I see it. I don't think we would have had any different outcome in Weymouth with a rule providing for a second mainsail. Do others feel differently? If we can cut down one mainsail so cheaply, why not let us cut down an old spinna...

Andrew:

Tell us more. The boat looks great. In addition to finding out the designer, history, construction, do tell us who is the proud new owner. In one of the photos is looks like there is a second boat already built?

Dave:

Call Henderson Boat Company at 206-790-3224. If he can not supply you one in time, I have an aluminum prototype I can send/loan/sell you. At worst you can use it until Kris can build one for you. I will just need a shipping address. Give it to Kris when you call him.

Re: Jib sheet problems - B5 Aero

Dave: I use a carbon swivel base mounted aft. The tail is fixed to the mainsheet tail and handed to me after the tack by the crew. Never a problem unless the crew forgets to bring the msinsheet. Henderson Boat Company makes the custom carbon base which is unique in that it can swivel 360 degrees rou...

Re: UK rule proposal on wind strength and mainsails

Andrew: I am certainly old enough, but haven't been in the fleet long enough to remember the stumped rig issues to which you refer. On the other hand, it didn't appear that George Nurton struggled too much in Weymouth, even in pretty light air with his rig. Furthermore, I would think anyone who had ...

Re: UK rule proposal on wind strength and mainsails

Within reason, I support taking steps to increase the wind range that we can sail the boats in. I think that there are already some viable alternatives available to having two mainsails, such as reefs, stumped rigs, etc. We are having very good early success with a reef on our newer, stiffer rig. I ...

Congratulations Dave Hayter on yur purchase of B6 hull 5.. You are going to love your new boat. (But then you know that after test driving the B6 a few days before buying.) Each boat that comes out of the mold is bettter and better. Your boat looks just incredible. I can't wait to see how she perfor...

The boat looks great. You did a lot of great work to her. Hopefully, you are selling only so you can buy a new boat. What are your plans?

Steve:

I am curious why you chose this route rather than a rudder cassette like Bieker or Tuttle designed. After you are done with the gudgeons, what is your plan for a tiller?

Re: My new boat

Steve: We put SeaDek on the racks and on the rail of my new B6. I think the SeaDek is an adequate product on the racks, but it did not wear well on the rail. It was hardly durable at all due to the open edges getting exposed to boot wear. I know that some like it on the floor, but in my opinion it d...
