Re: The new B6

Interesting comments. I have only sailed the b3 but try hard to work with my crew to achieve completely neutral helm both upwind and down. It seems obvious that any pressure on the helm is going to be slow. Upwind, the weather helm loads up only when we lose focus; usually the boat is slightly heele...

Re: Penultimate 1989

I had to do scoring for skiffs for our local fleet. We used 780 for new rules boats and 900 for pennies in Ottawa. This seems to work ok but it favors the new boats in breeze and the penny in light air. 49er was 747 but the rig has changed so this should go down a bit. New 14s are a bit quicker too,...

Re: Skiff 18, Forty niner, i14 and 29er..

Totally agree with the I14 speeds from Shu. My crew and I just went out for a final sail of the season in Ottawa in 10-15 knots and remarkably flat water. Upwind 9-11 knots, touching 12 occasionally. Downwind 16-18.5 knots. I've only seen the Velocitek steadily read 20 knots once and it was followed...

Re: 1986 Penny RYA Yardstick?

We used a rating of ~900 for Pennys in Ottawa and that seemed to work well. The Penny was pretty even with the Vanguard Vector and a touch slower than the Laser 5000. The new rules I14s have been rated at 780 when raced against 49ers (744). This seems pretty fair, 840 would be far too generous for t...

Re: Mast track replacement

I'm just finishing off this thread for those who may be looking to replace or repair their mast track in a similar way... I ultimately bought the Partite 7310 Methacrylic adhesive from Parson Adhesives. This has a 1:1 mixing ratio and is available in a range of sizes. They also sell simple dispensin...

Thanks Chris! I might just take you up on that. I have the mast in my basement now and was thinking of gluing it there but it sounds like this stuff might be a bit too smelly. Any idea just how toxic this stuff is? Also, if I don't want to buy the dispensing gun, I would have to buy it in 25ml syrin...

Mast track glue

I finally got mast track, polycarbonate from Forte as was suggested here. I was a bit skeptical about them rolling it in a 2' diameter spool for shipment but it straightened out fine and looks good. I'm now having difficulty finding any Plexus adhesive locally and I'm not keen to drive to the US jus...

The spin sheets should go through the cheek blocks and then forward, ultimately to the big ratchet blocks on either side of the mast. Use a continuous spin sheet so the crew can just grab it between the ratchets. It looks like you have the jib sheets going through the ratchet blocks instead. I think...

Mast track replacement

I have a Beiker carbon mast that needs a new track. The current track has multiple sections and some bad transitions between sections are damaging my sail around the bolt rope. Ideally, I'd like to replace the whole thing but do not want to screw up the mast stiffness. The track below the bottom spr...
