Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Yep, not a lot of steerage when it goes light / wrong in a tack! Certainly makes you work harder on trim :-) Andy can't believe the difference it makes, miles easier to drive the boat, so much lighter on the tiller and it picks up so much faster out of tacks and gybes Will give it a go and report ba...

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Understand. I do already have an Ovi barrel from the old system which I can use & try different purchases etc without any cost implication.
The rudder is one of the Tom Partington designed ones, pic below

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Thanks Ed Yea, I think it should be fairly easy to get the control line into the tiller, just a matter of figuring out how much purchase is needed, too little and Andy won't be able to move it, too much, he'll be winding all day! Also will need to get the diammeter of the spool right, fortunately we...

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Hi Ed Pics of our new system that Sam built below, we have come up with a new method of adjusting from the wing using a similar system to a Musto Skiff Kicker, it worked better than having it attached to the jib sheet but still isn't as good as the twist grip so we'll be looking at how to do that so...

Rudder control mechanism

Hi all Just finally got our new rudder system with the pivoting stock / block & tackle / jammer on floor of cockpit next to gantry. Went for first sail yesterday and we found that it was substantially harder to adjust than the old Ovi twist grip system on the old rudder / stock (other than that the ...

Top batten lost at POW

Hi All

Just a quick request, did anyone happen to pick a carbon batten up from the dinghy park at POW?, we lost the top batten.

Cheers

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Ed

Yes, definately, the problem is if you don't have it you'll have no grip to stop your foot rotating and you'll slip out all the time.

Did you see the bit on our sails on the P&B advert?

Cheers

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Hi Ed Agree with Shu here, I had the same quandry and I asked a couple of boatbuilder mates, they said as long as the holes are not in high stress areas or too large then you'll be ok filling with epoxy & silica to give strength and then gelcoating over it afterwards to make it look good (I used the...

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Hi Dan

Yes it is, apparently it shares similar stiffness to the current rigs but it a tad heavier, so we're pretty happy because we've heard a few bad stories about the rigs between our vintage and latest hi mod hi mod.

Why? have any insight?

Cheers

Re: GBR1524 TLC and control line changes

Hi Ed Just to let you know I'm going through exactly the same thing with 1522. I have agreed to write a multi part article for Yachts and Yachting on the rebuild. Will be covering Hull & Foil repairs, change of deck gear/re-rope & buying sails to fit / tuning. I'll add it to the forum after it's bee...
