Long Island Sound Crew

Hi:

looks like this is the first post of 2017!

Looking for crew this summer in US 1112. Planning to attend Oakcliff clinics. Would also like to plan for the 2018 Worlds since they will be in the US.

Re: Carbon Spreaders

Any idea what the sweep back angle typically is for the lower spreaders? I am about to attach the new lower spreaders and my boat seems set up for 40 degrees. It s a fixed installation.

Re: Upgrade of US1112

Have the third layer of carbon over the foam core. Was planning on 4, but, they seem pretty stiff. Any thoughts? Planning on bonding them directly to the mast for several reasons: * Want to cover the holes from the old spreaders * Seems the simplest way. *Doesn't seem to be a difference between maki...

Re: Upgrade of US1112

Making progress on the spreaders. Used 1/2" foam core and this shows one wrap of carbon. Since is the first time I didn't want to do all 4 wraps and find out the process wasn't working. As it is the carbon is a little stiff to do this so I have more flexible carbon coming. Need to figure out the lay...

Re: Upgrade of US1112

Well the development continues. The mast is straight as an arrow, so, after troubleshooting the problem, the current spreaders tip are in line between the hounds and the chainplates. When tensioning the shrouds there is no forward force which is needed to bend the mast. I decided to make longer carb...

Re: One Design 14 Penny ReLaunch

To find a used boat look at the 'buy/sell/trade' section and go back in time. email to see if the boat has been sold. Many are not. The East Coast seems dead but, there has to be boat around. Not all went to the West Coast. Newport & Annapolis had fleets and I am sure there are still boats there, bu...

Re: One Design 14 Penny ReLaunch

Hi: This is a design to cost trade off. My son and I went through a similar same decision scenario 5 years ago. We didn't have a boat at the time. In fact we had never trapped. (My father did build a number of 14s in the late 40s while at Douglass & McLeod) We did a lot of research. Generally wanted...

Carbon Spreaders

I am going to build carbon spreaders for US1112 as the old ones are too short to get proper mast bend. The Cherub site has some great info on this and there are several VIDs on line. How do I finish the outboard end to take the shroud? I saw Brad Devine's set up and was gong to try to copy it. It mi...

Re: Wide Racks & Bigger Rig

I got a Facebook post about Richard Woof Marine with videos of the wide racks. Is tis a formal thing with the class? Could it be approved for the San Francisco Worlds?

Wide Racks & Bigger Rig

Saw something on the Facebook page (International 14) about wider racks and a bigger rig. Anyone know about this?

Spreader Lenght Adjustment

Hi:

Does anyone have any details on Brad Devine's lower spreader adjustment mechanism?
PICs would be helpful.

Re: 25kts

So, what's needed is a mechanism in a shape like a ring that slides between the spreader and the mast tip through which the main halyard is passed. As the main is raised the head begins to push up the ring until it is at the mast head. When reefing is needed the halyard is slacked, the ring drops do...

East Coast High Performance Dinghy Open

Hey, everyone on the East Coast: The Heineken American Yacht Club High Performance Dinghy Open is planned for Columbas Day weekend October 10 & 11. How about we make an effort to have a I14 presence there? This is a great regatta! They will have One Design and PY courses. Its a great time to show w...
